TACLOBAN CITY โ Health and fisheries authorities have raised a red tide warning in parts of Samar and nearby coastal waters after seawater and shellfish samples tested positive for saxitoxin, which can cause paralytic shellfish poisoning. In an advisory released on Monday, the regional office of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said seawater samples collected from Irong-Irong Bay in Samar tested positive for Pyrodinium bahamense, a toxic marine dinoflagellate responsible for harmful algal blooms commonly known as โred tide.โ READ: Shellfish ban up in Biliran, parts of Samar, Eastern Samar due to red tide Red tide occurs […]...
