MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be deploying more police officers to the Senate in anticipation of possible protest actions amid “political tensions.” “Our current posture around the Senate is one of heightened vigilance but calibrated restraint,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement on Wednesday. “The Philippine National Police will increase police visibility around the Senate and nearby government facilities as political tensions continue to fuel concerns over possible protest actions and public disturbances,” he added.
