MANILA, Philippines — In one of his final contributions to the defense of Rodrigo Duterte, Nicholas Kaufman told a trial chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to reconsider the former president’s request for interim release as he has been reported to have been experiencing occasional “loss of balance” and “short-term memory.” In the observations filed on May 8 by the defense on Duterte’s detention, Kaufman said the reported medical information on his client in the past two months mitigates the risks he posed to victims and witnesses due to the apparent change in his circumstances.
