Margaret Squires responds to an article about the wartime meteorologist James Stagg, whose work is dramatised in a new film

Is there any chance of getting a weather tsar in the model of Group Capt James Stagg, the wartime meteorologist, to adjudicate between weather forecasts (How meteorologists recreated weather that helped decide second world war, 8 September)? Suppose I were holidaying in Fort William this week and really wanted to climb Ben Nevis on Thursday. According to the BBC forecast on Wednesday, the worst I could expect would be light rain, and if this was coming up to the end of my holidays, I might go for it. I might not know about the Mountain Weather Information forecast or the Norwegian forecast, which would make it clear that I was in for a soaking.
