The Association of Southeast Asian Nations is expected to welcome the release of more than 4,000 prisoners in the chairman’s statement to be issued at the bloc’s summit in the Philippines, according to a draft obtained by Kyodo News. “We viewed the release of prisoners in Myanmar as a positive step toward inclusive national dialogue among all parties in Myanmar,” the draft statement read. The statement is set for release Friday after leaders of the 11-member grouping meet in the central Philippine province of Cebu.
